Her passion for baking began in 2007, and she quickly enrolled in the Oregon Culinary Institute to learn baking and pastry.

Liz closed her first business, Artisan Cake Company, in 2015 after years of professional baking and offering online instructions from her home kitchen. That same year, she and her husband, Dan, launched Sugar Geek Show, an online cake design school where she teaches budding bakers how to make stunning cakes.
In case you’re interested, Liz Marek and her husband exchanged vows in October 2008. They initially met in graphic design school in 2007. Ezra and Avalon are the couple’s two children. While Ezra turned 3 in September 2022, Avalon is currently 8 years old.
Liz regarded the Netflix show as a team effort more than a competition. She and her cast members experienced all of the emotions in the performance, which helped them bond. She tried to wow the judges with her little yet realistic crab. She, too, became concerned about the impending deadline for the fragile legs, claws, and realistic shell. During the confessional clip, she said,
In the moment, it was like this is the worst thing I’ve ever done. I was literally sculpting right next to the real crab, putting all the little teeth on the claws, and the barnacles.
The actual crab brought into the show, on the other hand, was so fresh that it sprung to life on stage, terrifying Marek, and the cake seemed more lifelike. A lemon cake with raspberry buttercream filling and a modeling chocolate shell skillfully adorned with edible food coloring was a hit.
Liz was in Las Vegas after the show, working with Madame Tussauds on many projects, two of which are life-size figures (sculptures) that the candidates must make seem like wax sculptures. Talking about her experience in an interview with OregonLive, she said,
The thing that I loved about Season 1 is the thing I hope people get out of Season 2…It’s an opportunity to get together with friends, family, and kids. Kids love this show, and when you watch, you’re actively participating, you get to guess along with the judges.
