He attracted millions of followers, his club concerts began to sell out, and early this year, all 260 dates of his ProbleMATTic World Tour in North America, Europe, and Australia sold out in 48 hours. The demand was so great that the Ticketmaster website failed.

Rife’s massive tour includes two dates in Southern California at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Friday, November 24, and Saturday, November 25. The shows follow the release of his Netflix special, Matt Rife: Natural Selection, on Wednesday, November 15. Despite the countless recordings of his popular crowd work that have been uploaded on social media platforms, he urges fans not to get their hopes up when attending his next performances.

Rife grew raised in a rural Ohio hamlet and described Columbus as the only major city he had ever visited. He fell in love with Los Angeles after visiting with his prior management later in his career. He made the move because it would provide him with more opportunities in his comic profession. He thought it breathtaking, at least at first. He previously recalled,

When I first moved out here, I was astonished. I would drive around, and you could see the Hollywood Hills in front of you and the Hollywood sign, and it really hits you like, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m here.’ Then, a couple of years into it, you go, ‘OK, this place is actually kind of self-absorbed. These are not typically people I would normally hang out with.’ I think one of the toughest things has been finding my people, and I’ve been so lucky to find my core group who have been through similar experiences, come from similar backgrounds and have the same views on the city and lifestyle going on.
