The sports documentary series on Netflix, Last Chance U: Basketball, is a spin-off of the Emmy Award-winning series Last Chance U. Sports are more than just games. It’s about the characters and how several of them use it to get away from their socioeconomic disadvantages. ‘Last Chance U’ follows a similar theme. In addition to John Mosley, a number of other respective contributed to ELAC’s success. This includes Assistant Coach Robert “Rob” Robinson, who has helped the kids in his care face challenges both on and off the court. The show’s recently released season 2 has gathered many people’s interest in him. Fortunately, we are here to do the same!

Coach Robert Robinson Elac From Last Chance U: While He Is Currently the Chief Basketball Coach at MiraCosta Community College, He Was Previously One of Three Assistant Coaches of East Los Angeles College Huskies (Elac)!

In the Netflix sports documentary series Last Chance U: Basketball, Robert Robinson aka Rob Robinson Elac (@coachrob_miracosta) was one of three assistant coaches for the East Los Angeles College Huskies basketball team (ELAC). He was the team’s newest member and was previously the head coach at Notre Dame High School for 20 years.

The award-winning coach has been named Cal-Hi State Coach of the Year, SCIBCA Southern Section Coach of the Year, and Press-Enterprise Coach of the Year. He is currently a part-time virtual teacher for other institutions while aspiring to be a full-time ELAC coach.

However, Rob is no longer an Assistant Coach at East Los Angeles College as of this writing. The coach left the team after the 2021-2022 season to become the chief Basketball Coach at MiraCosta Community College in Oceanside, California. He decided to help the MiraCosta Spartans rise in the basketball circuit, hopefully in the 2022-2023 season, despite his fond memories of his time at ELAC, particularly his friendship with John Mosley (@coachjohnmosley).

Rob’s plans for his teams seem to be going swimmingly. The Spartans won four of the five games his team played between November 18, 2022, and December 9, 2022. Their only defeat came against Long Beach City College on December 2, 2022. His wife, Krysten, to whom he has been married for over 21 years, wholeheartedly supported the coach’s decision to switch. The happy couple has three sons, KJ, Meda, and Justus, who are about two years younger than their brothers.

Rob was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas. He is of mixed ethnicity. On his father’s side, he is half African American, while his mother is White. He moved to California as a teenager and graduated from Cabrillo High School in Lompoc, California.  Rob joined Allen Hancock Community College after completing high school and began to gain fame as a basketball player.

Soon after, he transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University and began playing for them. He eventually transferred to the University of California-Riverside in 1995 and continued to play basketball for the team. He also competed on the track and qualified for the NCAA national championship finals in the high jump in 1996.

Rob’s college basketball career ended in 1996, and he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Sociology in 1997. He returned to Allen Hancock Community College in August of the same year, this time as Assistant Basketball Coach, a position he held until March 1998. He then moved on to Columbus Cagerz-USBL, where he became chief Basketball Coach/Assistant General Manager. Rob, on the other hand, left the institution in July 1998.

Rob started at Notre Dame High School in Riverside, California, in September 1998. He has worked as the school’s chief Basketball Coach, Health/PE Teacher, and Associate Athletic Director over the years. In fact, Rob enrolled at Emporia State University in 2003 while still affiliated with Notre Dame. In 2004, the basketball trainer earned his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Rob left Notre Dame after more than two decades to become the Assistant Basketball Coach at ELAC. He joined the team in June 2019, just before his Netflix debut in ‘Last Chance U: Basketball.’ He also begin working as a part-Set featured image-time Virtual Teacher at Learn4Life-Mission Academy High School in June 2020, but he left in October 2020. In addition, in June of the same year, he became a Virtual Teacher for Method Schools, a position he still holds.
