De'Andre Johnson From Last Chance U: What Did He Do in 2015? Find the Quarterback Who Now Plays In USFL on Instagram!

De’Andre Johnson from Netflix’s Last Chance U now plays for the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League (USFL). The 26-year-old star was suspended for a season in Tallahassee in 2015 after a videotape of him punching a lady in the bar was released. Follow to know why Deandre actually did so and find him on Instagram (@dremontana).

Last Chance U on Netflix, directed by Greg Whiteley and Adam Ridley, does a fantastic job of highlighting the value of athletics, particularly at a low level. Every single athlete featured and emphasized in the series is without a doubt extremely brilliant, but the insight we gain into their hardships and how institutional injustices aggravate them shows that in order to recognize their nature and behaviors, we must first understand their story.

The series’ first season premiered on the streaming platform back in 2016 and finished up with its fifth & final season in 2020, with all the season being focused on JUCO football programs in the country; programs that don’t get much attention and are otherwise not nationally known. However, Netflix didn’t hold back. It created its spin-off titled Last Chance U: Basketball in 2021. Of course, the spin-off focuses on basketball.

Season 2 of the basketball series just arrived on the streaming platform. However, people have yet not forgotten the players from the football series as they have been seeking information about the players in recent days as well, including where De’Andre Johnson from Season 2 is now. Well, let’s find it out.

De’Andre Johnson (@dremontana), a quarterback, made the most of his opportunity in the second season of the popular Last Chance U. Johnson, who played a key role in East Mississippi Community College’s (EMCC) nearly unbeaten 2016 campaign, is now a player in the USFL.

The former three-star quarterback started his career at Florida State, but the team released him when he was charged with misdemeanor violence in connection with an incident that happened at a bar. Johnson was charged with violence on June 30, 2015, and the Tallahassee Democrat later released a video of the incident. Just one day after the confrontation, Johnson, 19 (at that time)), received an indefinite suspension.

Deandre made accidental touch with a woman as he entered the bar; she then raised her fist and yelled “racist epithets” at him. According to his attorney, the lady “kneed him in the groin area” and “took another swing before he reacted” while Johnson “tried to deescalate the situation.” Yes, he punches the lady in the face and walks away.

Because he was dismissed in July 2015, Johnson never participated in a regular-season game in Tallahassee. Johnson was transferred to East Mississippi and won the starting quarterback position in 2016 after issuing an apology in public.

The rookie quarterback went on to compete for EMCC in the second season of the Netflix series while playing for head coach Buddy Stephens. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound quarterback at East Mississippi assisted in the Lions’ 11-1 record and second-place NJCAA finish. Johnson was voted Most Valuable Offensive Player/Back for the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division and also won Game MVP honors at the Mississippi Bowl thanks to his 2,646 throwing yards and 26 touchdowns.

Johnson would receive a chance at Florida Atlantic to play for head coach Lane Kiffin after his success at EMCC. Johnson’s time at FAU as the starting quarterback was short; throughout his two seasons with the Owls, he completed just 166 passes for two touchdowns in eight games. Later, he ran for 209 yards and a score on 39 attempts.

After playing for FAU for two seasons, Johnson decided to move to Texas Southern, where the former “Last Chance U” quarterback amassed 1,575 passing yards and nine throwing touchdowns. His collegiate career would not result in an NFL chance after being undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Johnson’s most recent opportunity in the USFL came after a spell with the Sea Lions in The Spring League. He was chosen by the New Jersey Generals in the 12th round of the 2022 USFL Draft, and he is now having his most prosperous season since his JUCO days.

Johnson was selected as Luis Perez‘s backup. Johnson was often used in various offensive packages in the USFL debut against the Birmingham Stallions, losing 24-28. He carried for a game-high 98 yards and one score on 12 runs, while also completing 3 of 8 throws for 59 yards. He has established himself mostly on the ground because the Generals have used a two-quarterback system for the majority of the season.
