Coach Ken Hunter (@coach_ken_last_chance_u), a native of Detroit, Michigan, had a very difficult childhood. His father allegedly gave him and his two younger siblings very little attention while his mother worked nonstop to support the family. As a result, Ken was forced to act independently and find a part-time job to support his family.
It’s interesting to note that Ken developed a love for basketball at a young age and competed while attending Ecorse High School and the Powerhouse Detroit Southwestern High School. Ken’s ability was evident even in high school when he frequently guided his team to multiple victories. He was so motivated to become a professional basketball player as soon as he graduated.
Ken Hunter was offered the chance to play Division 1 basketball, but he had to go for the army because fate had other ideas. Additionally, by the time he returned, only division 2 teams were interested in signing him, so Ken decided to play for the Los Angeles Trade Technical College.
The assistant coach, however, was about to experience yet another catastrophe when, while play-wrestling with his roommate, he broke his C-4 vertebrae in three places and had a damaged spinal cord. This incident ended his professional basketball career and left him totally paralyzed from the waist down. This explains why he uses a wheelchair even now.
After the incident, Ken felt like everything was gone, but his Los Angeles Trade-Tech College coach, Richard Wells, encouraged him to give coaching a chance. Richard knew that Ken was a great leader, and he thought that Ken would be the ideal guy to lead the young players to brilliance. Ken never looked back after that and went on to become a very well-known basketball coach.
Ken Hunter is regarded as one of the finest in the business, and several of his players have gone on to receive awards and honors. Ken eventually made the decision to dedicate his talents to the ELAC basketball team in the 2015–16 season, and he rapidly rose to the position of Coach Mosley‘s right-hand man. Additionally, Ken’s outstanding work was acknowledged when his name was included on the list of the 50 most influential coaches in 2020 by JUCO Men’s Basketball.
Coach Ken is renowned for engaging with players on a deeper level and assisting them in their lives both on and off the court. His pursuit of excellence and desire for perfection helped him achieve enormous success. Ken is still hired by ELAC as John Mosley’s assistant coach and serves as the program’s lead recruiter for the men’s basketball team.
In addition, Ken Hunter plays a crucial role in the California Basketball Association, where he holds the positions of General Manager and Head Coach. Additionally, Ken is connected to the Drew League as a coach, as shown on his social media accounts. In his personal life, Ken is happily married to Ingrid Hunter, with whom he has five great children. It appears that they live in Los Angeles, California. We wish Ken and his beloved family all the best in the years to come.
