Orion Kerkering, who was born in Huntington Beach, California, attended the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa Bay, Florida. The young pitcher struggled while playing for the USF Bulls, compiling a record of 10-11 and an ERA of 4.79 over 129.1 innings.

A powerful arm out of the bullpen, Kerkering rapidly established himself after beginning the 2023 season with Low-A in Clearwater. Over the course of four different minor league levels, Kerkering’s ERA was 1.51. Over 53 2/3 innings, he only gave up nine earned runs while striking out 79 hitters.
The pitching prospect advanced swiftly through the minor league tiers, making the transition from Low-A to the MLB in just one season.
