Born on August 8, 1999, to parents from different parts of the world, Maria Zhang had an interesting upbringing. Having a Polish mother and a Chinese father wasn’t normal at the time.
While the identities of her parents have not been revealed yet, it’s safe to assume that the Suki actress was raised in two different cultural environments. Even though she was born in Poland, she spent most of her early days in Beijing, China.
Maria Zhang, along with her parents, moved to China when she was just a year old. She eventually moved again (this time to Southern California in the United States) for college. She had lived in three different countries before even graduating.

Growing up, she not only learned Polish and Chinese but she also learned Russian as her parents mostly communicated in Russian. In an interview with Mixed Asian Media (MAM), she explained,
So I’m half Polish, half Chinese. My mom is Polish, my dad is Chinese, and I grew up in a house where my parents spoke Russian to each other (I spoke Polish to my mom and Chinese to my dad), so it was a whole jumble of languages and cultures. To me that just felt like the norm, but whenever I’d tell other people that, they’d be like, ‘Oh my God, this is crazy.’
As of now, we are not sure if she still lives with her parents. She barely posts any updates about them on her Instagram. The last she posted anything about them was in 2020 on the occasion of Polish Mother’s Day. She posted a series of pictures with her mother with the caption, “Happy Polish Mother’s Day to this magical woman that I call my mama.”
Maria Zhang’s Passion for Acting Wasn’t Harmed by Her Parents’ Differences!
Despite being born to parents from different parts of the world, Maria Zhang’s passion for acting wasn’t harmed by the distance of her parents’ hometown.
Born in Poland, Maria moved to China when she was just a year old. However, her passion for acting was so strong that she used to go to Poland every summer as part of a theatre group. She previously told,
My grandma actually saw this newspaper clipping asking for young actors to come do this community theatre show. They were doing ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ and I was like, ‘I have to do this!’ I ended up going back to Poland every summer, just to be a part of this theatre group. It was like magic, ‘cause it was in the middle-of-nowhere countryside of Poland. We would run on the grass, pouring our hearts and souls into weeks of rehearsals to create this imaginary world.
