Jim Doty: The Iowa-Based Detective Had a Very Important Role in Solving the Case!

Before going deep into the contribution of Jim Doty (@honkytonkdetective) to solving this cold case, we would like to clarify that he isn’t just a detective but also a sergeant at the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

As for his background, Jim joined the police force in 2007 as a working road police officer, later becoming a field training officer and crisis negotiator before moving to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in 2013.

However, with the help of his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his Master’s degree in Justice Administration & Crime Management, he was promoted to sergeant in 2017, and a year later, his hard work earned him a position as a supervisor inside the CID division. Prior to this, he had solved the Cari Farver case with his best officers Ryan and Tony, which helped him advance.

As for his current whereabouts, we are happy to share that Jim is still a Sergeant-Investigator at the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, as well as a volunteer with at-risk children.

In fact, Jim Doty volunteers to teach and motivate young adults in Sunday School at the Church of Christ in Council Bluffs, and he spends two weeks each summer at the Christian-based Nebraska Youth Camp. The latter is really the same camp he attended as a child; he once stated,

I saw how important it was in my life to have Christian friends who were doing the right things. If I didn’t, who knows what road I would have decided to go down. Now, I like to be someone who can facilitate that in others.

In terms of his personal life, the Iowa-based detective is in a nice, healthy long-term relationship with Sarah Poderys, a hairstylist. The couple often shares pictures of them spending time together on Instagram.

What Happened to Cari Farver’s Body?

Lover, Stalker, Killer on Netflix follows the lives of Dave Kroupa, Liz Golyar, and Cari Farver. Farver, who was killed by Goylar, was never seen after they first met at Kroupa’s house. The spectator learns later in the documentary that Goylar is responsible for Farver’s unexpected disappearance.

The documentary also reveals that Goylar killed Farver out of fury and envy. Golyar possibly became enraged when she discovered Kroupa’s feelings for Farver, prompting her to commit the horrific act.

Farver’s actual cause of death is unknown, as her body and murder weapon were never found. However, prosecutors presented circumstantial evidence during Golyar’s trial, including Farver’s blood found in Kroupa’s apartment and Golyar’s fingerprints in Farver’s car. Golyar’s actions following the murder, such as mimicking Farver online, added to her guilt in Farver’s death.
