Since Ji Hwan Bae has just started his MLB career, it seems he is completely focused on his baseball career right now. On the other hand, there’s a high chance he might have a girlfriend in private but does not want to share it with the public. Given how his previous relationship ended, we can assume he is keeping things private.
In 2018, he was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Seul-Gi Kim, after she filed a police case stating that he slapped, choked, and kicked her. According to The Atheltic, Seu-Gi told via text message:
Bae Ji-hwan hit me. He hit me in Daegu. The first time I was (physically) abused was on New Year’s Eve (in 2017). There (also) was verbal abuse. Before the actual physical abuse, I was under critical stress due to him and his family. His family and he repeatedly asked me to ‘endure’ him because he is a baseball player and he needs support.
Kim shared images of what she said were injuries Ji Hwan Bae had left on her body on her Instagram page. One of the photos had the following caption: “I will find a way to take care of this problem by legal means.” The reported event allegedly took place on New Year’s Eve of 2017. According to Kim, Bae “threatened me he would die if I didn’t see him again. Also, he squeezed my throat until I (said) that I would love him again.”
