It’s no wonder that Denton wants to be just like his father, and he’s even discovered a vocation to assist his hearing-impaired community through the Louisiana School For The Deaf. However, by demonstrating his talents and tenacity, he was able to ascend through the ranks to become Head Football Coach before obtaining the Athletic Director position in 2021.
That’s when Denton’s colleague Dr. Natalie Delgado nominated him for Queer Eye because she noticed that in his efforts to always be there for his pupils, he was neglecting himself. All of his efforts were appreciated, but she wondered if he realized it because he was so preoccupied with the worry of failing to provide possibilities for the children.
Furthermore, given his leadership position and subsequent public interactions with board members, city hall, and the media, she believed he needed a little tidying up to gain some confidence. Likely, his wife Sydney was also on the same page, especially since she was concerned that he might burn out if he continued to give to others without taking a break for himself now and again.
That’s when the Fab Five stepped in to assist him realize that whatever he was doing was his best and more than enough, while also improving his personal style, interests, and workplace. They effectively taught him that he’d be most useful if he felt perfect, which necessitated actual self-care.
Finally, there was a noticeable difference in him, and he admitted to the Fab Five that “This has been a blessed experience. You know, this time I’ve spent with you all is one of my favorite memories of my life. You motivated me to really address things and experience new things. You’ve given me the ability to really shoot for the stars. Take risks. That’s what you’ve taught me.” He continued,
You’ve given me the confidence I need to become the Athletic Director. So thank you so much for that. And you taught me a lot of important things like self-care. Self-care is the most important thing to lead a healthy life. You’ve really given me so much insight into myself.
