Designer Bao Tranchi From Next in Fashion Season 2: The Vietnamese-Born Designer Has Created Iconic Dresses for Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, as Well as Gigi Hadid; Find Her on Instagram!
Bao Tranchi (@baotranchi) from Next in Fashion Season 2 has more than 20 years of experience in the fashion industry. She was one of the finalists of the second season and we weren’t surprised at all. While she was born in Vietnam, she moved away when she was just 10 months old. Her age is estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old.
She and her family immigrated to America in search of a better life. Bao’s mother, who used to work in sweatshops in downtown Los Angeles, taught her how to sew. After graduating from Otis School of Design, she accepted her first job opportunity at Anne Klein.
According to LA Weekly, Bao chose to work as a stylist and wardrobe designer for movies including Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Charlie’s Angels, where she collaborated with Madonna stylist Arianne Phillips. Everything changed with the death of her mother in 2010. Brandon Showers, a business and life partner, moved to Vietnam to focus on films and photography. Change may be good sometimes, and Bao’s situation was no different.
After relocating to Vietnam, Bao gave birth to their daughter, Sadie, and rose to fame in the film business as a fashion icon. Her husband, in the meantime, rose to the position of creative director for Hearst Vietnam’s fashion publications.
When she left her native country with her family once more, her pregnant body changes inspired Bao’s now-signature curve-enhancing aesthetic. She also stated in her profile that she intended to “celebrate [Graham’s] body in a way that was, up to then, only reserved for sample size bodies,” according to Netflix Tudum. She bragged about her achievement and how it became a “huge viral fashion moment” and “what was appropriately sexy for a plus-sized woman.”
Through fashion, Bao’s creations celebrate and enlighten the contemporary woman. Her most recent creations have skin-baring cuts and bondage-style lacing and straps. She has also been experimenting with new hues and materials, including velvet to her signature mesh, elastic, and lining fabrics.
The desire of the costume and fashion designer to produce the most memorable creations leads her to some extremely well-known celebrities as clients. She has styled some well-known music videos since she began her creative career. Along with designing costumes for movies including Charlie’s Angels, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Once Upon a Time in Vietnam, and Journey from the Fall, Bao has also worked as a set decorator. Selena Gomez was Bao’s first high-profile customer. The singer appeared in Taylor Swift‘s Bad Blood music video wearing her strappy black bodysuit. Her connection then suddenly broke.
For her 48th birthday, Jennifer Lopez wore a mesh top with velvet birds by Bao Tranchi that tastefully and seductively covered her breasts. Gigi Hadid, Laverne Cox, and Nicki Minaj have all used her products. Ashley Graham also attended the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscar Party wearing a gorgeous dress by Bao.
Additionally, Bao is a devoted mother who adores her daughter and aspires to inspire her via her career and achievements. Also, she gets along well with Chau and Crystal, her sisters.
