The popular series Bake Squad has returned with a flawless portion. Season 2 of the baking show aired all eight episodes on Netflix on Thursday, January 20, 2023. The cast, which includes cake decorator Ashley Holt, baked good gourmet specialists Christophe Rull and Maya-Camille Broussard, and chocolatier Gonzo Jimenez, is led by Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi. They needed to make a cake for 13-year-old Josh‘s Bar Mitzvah, a Jewish right of passage for the season premiere.
The Mishnah mentions thirteen as the age at which one is obligated to observe the Torah‘s commandments: At five years old one should study the Scriptures, at ten years for the Mishnah, and at thirteen for the commandments.
Jennifer, Josh’s mother, devised a request to the cast at the season 2 premiere. She needed to acknowledge her child’s Jewish rite of passage. While she was aware that it was not customary for people to have cake at the event, her child was a huge cake fan.
Jennifer made sense of the cake necessities and gave the team insight into Josh’s character, recognizing that he was the energy everyone needed, a genuine entertainer, and a full character. Josh was very interested in space, vehicles, and pastry deals such as marshmallows, churros, and chocolates, which the bread cooks immediately noticed and were fascinated by. She also stated that the event would have more than 100 attendees and that the family had been planning it for two years.
Following a quick briefing, the Prepare Crew members got to work on making their plans. While Christophe had to create a highlight for each table, Ashley had to create a 7-tiered high contrast cake. Gonzo needed to create a 5-foot chocolate rocket, and Maya-Camille planned to create a refueling station stocked with dessert treats and a tire cake.
Jennifer was brought in for a quick check while the cooks were at work. She realized that, while all of the cake ideas sounded amazing, they fell short of the wow factor and the “pizzazz” that Josh exemplified. They lived in a Flatiron penthouse that they bought in 2016 for $3.7 million, according to the New York Times. Later, the penthouse was eventually sold for $4.4 million in October 2022.
