Zane Phillips from Netflix’s Glamorous has been a gay man for many years. He initially announced his sexuality in a 2014 tweet decrying ultraconservatives’ persecution of LGBT people. Likely, he has also been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ rights.
Glamorous, a maze of options and variables created by Jordon Nardino, tells the story of a young gender-nonconforming wannabe influencer, Marco, who is attempting to find his way. But everything changes, when a makeup mogul, Madolyn Addison, hires him as her right hand and gives him a place at the table.
To identify the source of the issues afflicting his idol, Madolyn, Marco finds himself blending in with several groups. The cast of the Netflix show which includes Miss Benny, Kim Cattrall, Jade Payton, Zane Phillips, and Michael Hsu Rosen, centers on the struggles a young person faces while attempting to find their way through the convoluted web of their personal and professional lives.
Since the release of the series, people have been fascinated by the show’s cast, especially Zane Phillips. He is an American actor and model who made his big-screen debut in Fire Island. I can’t help but think about what a gift it is to be surrounded by this queer family of beautiful, hilarious, hardworking, and kind artists.

Fire Island is a modern-day LGBTQ+ rendition of Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice, with a predominantly gay cast. , Zane’s Dex persona, is inspired by Rupert Friend‘s portrayal of the deceitful George Wickham in the 2005 Keira Knightley adaption. Later, in an interview with Gay Times, Zane described Dex as a sex-positive man with an OnlyFans page and a perfectly manicured Instagram who feels he is socially progressive. He stated,
Here’s the thing, I play the character, so I will tell you that my own chronic insecurity is the only thing keeping me from being like this person. He’s very physically confident. He’s there to be the drama, honestly. Shit gets to go down.
As a gay man, Zane Phillips was overjoyed to be a part of a film that featured such complex and diverse portrayals of the queer community. According to him, the video speaks to the reality of what the community is for him, which was joyous, irreverent, silly, and fast-paced. He added,
But I think we’re also seeing a generation that yearns to have quiet relationships [like in Heartstopper] that are just straightforwardly sweet—and both of them are okay. I hope [these queer-led projects] can continue to unleash really bold queer voices and let people see how we actually relate to each other.

Talking to Gay Times, Zane Phillips recently told that his character embodies the stereotypical teen movie villain, with his quaffed hair and continuous sneers. But, as the season progresses, you begin to realize why he is so absent. He’s not all sneers and scowls. Chad is desperate to maintain his position as country club king in the aftermath of Marco‘s arrival. He added: “It’s like, ‘Hey, this is my room, these are my toys, what are you doing here?'”
Phillips described the cast interaction as an egoless room with everyone supporting each other. He was equally effusive in his admiration for Cattrall, calling her incomparable. He added:
There’s something to say about the fact that Kim comes in with such a storied career and status within the queer community. We were all shook to be in the same room as her. So much of what the show became, and what her character became, was because of her.
