Is The Last of Us Zionist? Jewish Themes & Politics Discussed blurred-reality.com

blurred-reality.com – Some viewers have been claiming that The Last of Us promotes Zionism as they believe the creator of the show, Neil Druckmann, is zionist. Neil, who was born in Israel, has been accused of reflecting Jewish themes and politics in the show.

The Last of Us was one of 2023’s biggest breakthrough hits, and for good reason. We’re heartbrokenly invested in Joel‘s (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie‘s (Bella Ramsey) love after only one season. And, after that stressful episode-nine finale, we just want to know what happens next — even if we still have nightmares about fungus people and have banned mushrooms from our weekly grocery list.

HBO believed it had found something remarkable when it announced a second season after only two episodes. Of course, because the series is based on a video game, many people know what might happen if The Last of Us season 2 follows the plot of the second game.

Meanwhile, we have found that some people have been claiming that the series promotes Zionism. They have been accusing the show of becoming zionist. Well, let’s discuss what the buzz is all about.

Some Fans Are Already Canceling The Last of Us Season 2 Claiming the Creator Is Zionist!

In the midst of the excitement for Season 2 of The Last of Us, many people have expressed concerns over the writer’s purported Zionist themes. Notably, Neil Druckmann, the creator of the successful game and its TV version, was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and spent part of his childhood in a settlement before moving to the United States.

The show’s conversations have sparked disputes about its ties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, leading to requests for awareness and discussion within the fan community. The argument regarding the writer’s point of view highlights the difficulties in translating information frequently found in real-world disputes.

To add flame to the fire, Neil even stated that The Last of Us season 2 is influenced by the politics of Israel/Palestine. Given these alleged links, some have questioned if supporting the show is ethical.

Taking to Twitter (now X), one user wrote,

reminder that neil druckmann is an avid zionist & TLOU2 is a blatantly racist metaphor for the ethnic cleansing and genocide of palestine

Similarly, another tweeted,

this is your reminder that this franchise is rooted in zionism and is zionist propaganda. the story is literally based on the israeli occupation of palestine and perpetuates very harmful palestinian stereotypes & caricatures. pirate this, or even better, boycott it completely.

Similarly, there’s a whole Reddit discussion about how and why the show is connected to the Islarel-Palestine conflict. Regardless, The Last of Us Season 2 is in progress and will start shooting early this year. It remains to be seen how the issue will affect the show’s reception and popularity.

Potential Release Date of The Last of Us Season 2

After only two episodes, HBO felt The Last of Us had something exceptional on its hands and ordered a second season. Sadly, despite the series’ January 2023 premiere, it doesn’t appear that we’ll see anything new for quite some time.

Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the show’s creators, claimed they have planned out the entire second season during an interview for Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast in August. Mazin also revealed that the first episode had been written and the screenplay had been turned in. So far, so good, right? But then the strike started. Mazin said,

I think it’s becoming essentially a near certainty that we won’t be able to start [filming] when we were hoping to start, which is upsetting. We are all raring to go. This is what we are born to do…This is how we not only choose to live our lives, but I believe [how we] are compelled to live our lives. Otherwise, why the hell would we do this insane job? I can assure you it’s not for money.

Even without the apparent delay caused by the strike (which has now ended), leading star Bella Ramsey earlier claimed (in March 2023) that a second season would most likely take a couple of years to finish. We’ll keep hope for an early 2025 release, but it’s possible it’ll happen later that year.
