The first season of the show effectively brought the thrilling story of The Last of Us Part 1 video game to life. The second season, set five years after the first, promises to reveal a more mature Joel and Ellie as they meet a new character named Abby, who seeks vengeance for their acts in the previous season.

The story of The Last of Us Part 2 has received both praise and criticism, but HBO‘s adaptation has the creative leeway to make required screen alterations while retaining the core of the original narrative. But while fans are anticipating Season 2, some online users are worried about the writer’s purported Zionist beliefs. Notably, Neil Druckmann was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and spent part of his childhood in a settlement before moving to the United States.

The show’s connections to the Israeli-Palestinian war have sparked disputes, leading to demands for awareness and discussion within the fan community. The argument regarding the writer’s point of view highlights the difficulties encountered when translating content that is sometimes based on real-world disputes. Given these alleged links, questions have been raised about whether sponsoring the show is ethical. But it’s unclear how the issue will affect the show’s response and viewership until its release.

A Glimpse at Neil Druckmann’s Early Life!

Neil Druckmann was born on December 5, 1978, in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Yehudit (Judith) and Jerry Ilan Druckmann, both of whom were Jewish. His father was a former flight test engineer for Israel Aerospace Industries. His family lived in Ramat Aviv until 1981 when they relocated to Beit Aryeh, a West Bank settlement, where he recalls violence being a common topic on the news and in conversations at home.

As an escape, his older brother, Emanuel exposed him to comic books, video games, and movies. These forms of entertainment assisted him in learning English. In 1989, he and his family emigrated to the United States, where he attended middle and high school in Miami, Florida. He began studying criminology at Florida State University (FSU), hoping to get experience as an FBI agent to use in his thriller novels.

Later, Neil Druckmann worked as a graphics research assistant at Florida State University’s Visualisation Lab for a year beginning in July 2002, while living in Tallahassee. During this period, he and his buddies started working on the game Pink-Bullet for Linux and Windows. He had aspired to be an animator, which would have required him to take art school, but his parents prohibited him.

After attending a programming class, he realized it was his preference, and he enrolled in a Bachelor of Computer Science with a minor in math in December 2002, graduating cum laude the following year with a 3.61. Later, he relocated to Pittsburgh, where he attended Carnegie Mellon University and began his master’s degree in entertainment technology at the Entertainment Technology Centre.

As part of his degree, Neil Druckmann took Jesse Schell‘s game design class, which taught him beliefs about the good consequences of games that he would later utilize, and Randy Pausch‘s virtual worlds course, which taught him to be more collaborative. Furthermore, he developed the game Dikki Painguin in TKO for the Third Reich for the Nintendo Entertainment System as a Carnegie Mellon student in April 2004, in partnership with fellow student, Allan Blomquist.
