Is Tao Xu Gay in Heartstopper? blurred-reality.com

We don’t think Tao Xu from Heartstopper is gay. While his sexuality has not been clarified in the series, Netflix Tudum describes him as straight.

In Netflix‘s Heartstopper, the energizing lightness of youth collides with the challenges and sorrows of young people. The coming-of-age tale, created by Alice Oseman, centers around Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson at the all-boys Truham Grammar School. The teenage boys gradually move near each other after being seated next to each other.

While their desire for each other is the focus of the film, the LGBT romantic drama also delves into the vitality of friendship and platonic love. Charlie’s best friend and confidante, Tao Xu, plays an important part in the series. Tao’s lively demeanor complements the plot in various ways by helping his closest friend in mapping the trepidations of life.

Since Tao is one of the most important characters in the LGBTQ+-themed series, many people wonder if he is gay. Well, we’ve got you covered.

Tao Xu Doesn’t Appear to Be Gay in Heartstopper!

Viewers wonder if Tao Xu is gay since Heartstopper is primarily focused on the LGBTQ+ theme. While his sexuality has not been clarified in the series, Netflix Tudum describes him as a “token straight friend.”As a result, we don’t have any option but to assume that he is straight.

Tao has been suspected of being gay because of two major factors. Firstly, he is very much concerned about Charlie. However, we have to keep in mind that they are best friends, and caring about your best friend does not make you gay. Regardless, many people question his sexuality as Charlie is also gay.

On the other hand, Tao has deeply been in love with Elle, who is a trans. However, do note that straight men who are into trans men are not gay at all. Gender identification relates to how you individually identify as male, female, both, neither, or something altogether else. Being “trans” (transgender) indicates that a person’s gender identification does not correspond to the sex given to them at birth.

Sexual orientation, on the other hand, relates to someone you are romantically, emotionally, and/or sexually attracted to. It is about who you are physically and emotionally attracted to. Your sexual orientation is not determined by liking or identifying as transgender. Whether you are transgender, cisgender (identifying with the sex assigned at birth), or any other gender identity, your sexual orientation is a distinct component of your identity.

Therefore, we believe Tao Xu is not gay. However, we will surely get back to you as soon as we get any updates about his sexuality in upcoming seasons.
