Both Chase Elliot and Alex Bowman From Hendrick Motorsports Failed to Qualify for the Nascar Cup Series Playoffs!
After the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, teammates Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman bumped fists on pit road. Although both Chevrolets had been placed next to one another at the front of the post-race line, neither Hendrick Motorsports car was in the front of that line when it mattered at the finish line.
In the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday night, Elliott came in fourth and Bowman came in sixth, both finishing just a few slots short of the victory required to clinch the final spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Both drivers missed out on competing for the championship for the first time in their Hendrick Motorsports careers as they were unable to overcome the flotilla of Ford racers at the front of the pack down the stretch.
On lap 146 of a 160-lap race, Elliott and Bowman each completed their final pit stops, quickly completing their fuel-only services and moving up the leaderboard. The two drivers — Elliott on Row 2 and Bowman behind him — picked the inside lane in line with each other when the race entered overtime due to a caution period for Ryan Preece‘s late-race flip on the back straightaway.
Ford driver Kevin Harvick, an old rival in his final Daytona start of his career, ended up becoming Elliott’s main drafting partner. Elliott, however, claimed he was unable to maintain a tight grip on Harvick’s No. 4 bumper in order to take better advantage of the aerodynamic flow.
