Trevor Noah (@trevornoah) retired from The Daily Show on September 29, 2022, stating that he would be leaving the show to pursue other opportunities. He openly admitted that he missed touring, visiting different places, learning different languages, and simply “being everywhere, doing everything.” He stated,
There’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages and going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere, doing everything.

After being selected by Daily Show host Jon Stewart, Noah joined The Daily Show in December 2014 as a recurring senior international reporter. Noah was announced as the new host of Comedy Central in March 2015, succeeding Stewart, who stepped down after 16 years.
Noah’s tenure as host began on September 25, 2015, and ended on Thursday, December 8, 2022. From the time Trevor Noah announced that he’d retire from The Daily Show, Hasan Minhaj appeared to be the natural successor. The comedian worked as a correspondent for The Daily Show and presented his own Netflix show, Patriot Act. So it came as no surprise when Variety revealed in August that Minhaj was the frontrunner. However, a succession of made-up stories in Minhaj’s stand-up specials were revealed by an exposé published in the New Yorker.
Later, Roy Wood Jr., who joined The Daily Show as a correspondent in 2015 and hosted the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, became a fan favorite. But then something else happened.
On October 5, Wood informed NPR that he was leaving The Daily Show, a choice that looked to be driven in part by the fact that he was not offered the hosting role. He told NPR that he needed to figure out what he was going to do next since he “can’t come up with Plan B” while “still working with Plan A.” He also added that he isn’t against Comedy Central and would still consider hosting if the opportunity arose.
Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken, and Jordan Klepper are among those who have hosted The Daily Show. However, a permanent host has yet to be confirmed.
