From an Oncology Nurse to a Popular Musician, Here’s What Keshi Has to Say About His Journey!

Using the name Keshi, Casey Luong released his debut song on SoundCloud almost six years ago. It was a melancholy, echoing ballad about heartbreak. Since then, he has worked in a variety of fields, first as an oncology nurse in Texas while posting his music online, then as a well-known musician with a forthcoming headline tour.

The Vietnamese American musician is well recognized for his lo-fi style, which features his distinctive falsetto, delicate guitar and piano melodies, and songs that discuss longing and loneliness. Talking about his journey in an interview with Weekend Edition, he told,

It was a long road for sure. I’ve always loved music. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was 13 years old, and I’m 27 now. And it never seemed like a practical career choice; definitely not to my parents. [I] always wanted to have something sort of stable for myself, I kind of envisioned myself being more of a family man who kind of just — not literally — but mentally slept through work, so I could come home and make music on my downtime. I’ve always loved music, and it’s been my dream to pursue it the past few years.
