Tanner Smith (@tannerwiththe_tism) was only 4 years old when his parents found that he had autism. As a child who struggled to interact with others and was frequently misunderstood by others, especially his mother, the Love on the Spectrum star found it difficult to navigate the ups and downs of being autistic. He attended Glenforest School in Columbia and then graduated from Clemson University.
He currently lives with two roommates in downtown Clemson and works at a hotel about a block away from his apartment. He is excited about his job and enjoys interacting with hotel visitors.

Away from work, Tanner is a fitness enthusiast who enjoys working out, a quality he received from his mother, Nicci. He is frequently seen at the gym working out or experimenting with new gym skills. He is also an avid traveler, often seen on safaris with his family.
Tanner’s work ethic is outstanding since he began working at an early age, serving at Chick-fil-A Orangeburg in 2017, while also having two on-campus roles at Fike Recreation Center and the Division of Undergraduate Studies.
Meanwhile, he is very active when it comes to spreading awareness about autism. Tanner visited Harbison West School in 2019 to engage with students and teach them about autism. He documented his experience on social media, posting images of himself with the youngsters and writing, “I had a great week! On Monday, I spoke to the students at Harbison West School about autism.” Tanner went even further, inviting several of the children to a Christmas celebration he held.

As for his time on Love on the Spectrum, we watched Tanner and Kate get closer and closer. Kate, like Tanner, has a condition (Down syndrome) that distinguishes her from others. After a few dates and learning that they shared many interests, the couple got closer. Tanner even stated that he thought she was lovely.
However, their burgeoning connection did not progress past friendship. But Tanner is still looking for a woman to call his girlfriend. When asked about his experience on the show in an interview with TUDUM, he said,
It has made me more open to dating and the idea of being in love. The show has taught me that there is a lot of time, effort, and work that goes into dating and getting to know someone. It gives me confidence to know I have been on several dates now. I hope to one day find the right woman.
