Perry was dealing with an opiate addiction in 1997. Perry wasn’t content despite his accomplishments. Following the removal of a wisdom tooth, Perry was prescribed the painkiller Vicodin and found that taking medication helped to temporarily ease his mental suffering.
Following his injuries in a skiing accident, Perry was prescribed the medication once more, which led to his physical and psychological dependence on it. Perry had to spend 28 days in an addiction treatment facility before he was able to give up the drug.
Although most people are aware of Perry’s therapy for his Vicodin addiction, fewer are aware of his other mental health conditions, which are frequently linked to addictive personality features. Following his efforts to get rid of his Vicodin habit, Perry began to exhibit overt signs of an eating disorder.
His significant weight loss (more than 20 pounds) was first thought to be caused by pancreatitis, but it soon became clear that he was experiencing disordered eating as a result of his addiction.

People who take opioids frequently lose a significant amount of weight. In Perry’s case, stress and possibly anorexia contributed to his weight loss. Anxiety, eating disorders, and other mental health illnesses are often linked to a higher prevalence of addictive traits.
